What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review and analyze documentation in medical records for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services
- Assign diagnoses, procedures, and charge codes as per physician instructions
- Collaborate with clinical co-workers on facility and professional coding and charging responsibilities
- Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by the American Health Information Management Association
- Follow official coding guidelines during the coding process
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 6 years of coding and/or charging experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or HCPCS/CPT coding
- At least 8 years of recent clinical, coding/charging, or consulting experience in an acute care or professional service setting preferred
- A.S. degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program or related healthcare discipline
- One coding certification (e.g., CCS, CPC, RHIT) must be obtained within 6 months of employment or transfer if charge/clinical experience is met
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- B.S. degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program
- Additional coding certifications beyond the required ones
