      The Juvenile Probation Division in the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Cognitive Interventions Probation Officer. This position will facilitate and manage internal Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) groups, manage CBI group referrals, and collaborate with other DOCCR CBI efforts.

      Salary based on qualifications:
      Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $63,084.38 - $94,626.57 Annually
      Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $69,550.52 - $104,325.79 Annually

      Location and hours:
      This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 1256 Penn Avenue North, Suite 5400, Minneapolis, MN 55411, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will generally operate during standard business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and may include evening hours to meet the needs of clients. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

      New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

      In this position, you will:
      • Facilitate a variety of Cognitive Skills groups for system involved clients.
      • Manage Juvenile Probation referrals and screen clients for appropriate placement in groups, in collaboration with referring Probation Officer.
      • Schedule groups, locations, and facilitators.
      • Co-facilitate Cognitive Skills Groups with newly trained facilitators for onboarding purposes, provide on-going support and coaching to facilitators.
      • Document and maintain client’s Cognitive Skills Group progress in CSTS for Probation Officers to enhance case plans and 1:1 Cognitive Interventions; including attendance, assignments, participation, and completion of groups.
      • Collaborate with DOCCR partners to measure and assess DOCCR Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) efforts, training needs of CBI facilitators, and future programming needs.
      • Report to Juvenile Probation Operations on a quarterly basis to review status, needs, success, etc.
      • Participate in the development of cognitive skills groups and support this effort throughout the division, including becoming a trainer of curriculums.
      • Participate in county, state, and nationwide CBI efforts and trainings.
      • Communicate Cognitive Skills Group programming provided to Juvenile Probation clients with court and community partners and other stakeholders.
        • Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively manage various groups and tasks, independently or with minimal assistance problem solve and adapt dependent on client need and responsivity factors, as well as changing group dynamics. Defending decisions or recommendations independently in Court or with DOCCR partners.
        • Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an advanced knowledge of cognitive interventions, history of facilitation experience, proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, ability to train facilitators in curriculum. In addition to duties listed above.
        Need to have:
        For hire as a Probation/Parole Officer, Senior :
        • One of the following:
          • Associate degree in any field and six or more years of full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in a non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
          • Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program); and one or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
        • Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.

        For hire as a Probation/Parole Officer, Career :
        • One of the following:
          • Associate degree in any field and eight or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in a non-related field and six or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, a nd five or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
          • Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by the degree program); and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
        • Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.

        Nice to have:
        • Experience facilitating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy groups.
        • Experience working with clients with system involvement, chemical dependency, and/or mental health diagnoses.
        • Knowledge of the principles of Evidence-Based Practices.
        • Knowledge of the principles of social learning theory, casework practices, interviewing and investigative methods, the criminal justice system, criminology, counseling methods, individual and group behavior, chemical abuse assessment and treatment, laws relating to correctional programs and procedures, therapeutic and strength-based approaches.
        • Ability to:
          • Use differing intervention strategies which facilitate client change.
          • Function independently within defined agency policy and procedures.
          • Maintain confidentiality of client information, meet deadlines, and work effectively within the authority of the criminal justice system.
          • Apply safety and security policies and procedures.
        • Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable with evolving technology.
