      The Department of Computer Science (CS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking candidates for one tenure-track assistant professor faculty position, with a start date of Fall 2025.

      Candidates with expertise in all core CS areas are sought, with preference being given to candidates who could complement and enhance current department strengths in the areas of Cyber Security, Systems, Natural Language Processing, and Data Science/Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, and Networking . UAB has made a significant commitment to both research and teaching in Computer Science.

      Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a closely related field (or an expectation that the Ph.D. in these areas will be earned before the start of the appointment), to demonstrate strong research credentials as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals and conferences, in areas that are aligned with or complementary to the department’s current research interest and strengths. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong interest in teaching and, preferably, experience in teaching computer science or related topics at the university level, together with experience and success in obtaining research grants.

      The CS Department at UAB offers PhD, MS, BS, and BA programs. The Department has a strong research focus, and a strong commitment to teaching, service, and outreach. The Master’s in Cyber Security program at the Department of Computer Science is ranked No. 1 in the country for in-person Cyber Security Master’s programs (Fortune 2023). The Department recently moved to a brand-new facility at University Hall, and enrollments in its programs have quintupled over the past few years. Research funding is expanding significantly, and the Department plays a leadership role in a center focusing on Cyber Security. Collaborations with UAB’s medical enterprise are strong and growing, with many opportunities for faculty to participate in interdisciplinary work.       The application package must include: (i) a one-page cover letter, (ii) a curriculum vitae encompassing a list of publications and scholarly achievements, (iii) a statement of future research plans (up to four pages), (iv) a statement of teaching experience and philosophy (up to four pages), and (v) contact information for at least three professional references.
