      The Department of Mathematics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure earning faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor with an anticipated start date of August 15, 2025. Candidates with demonstrated teaching expertise in introductory level mathematical literacy courses such as Finite Mathematics or Mathematical Reasoning are encouraged to apply.

      The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Mathematics or a related discipline with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate level mathematics coursework. Qualified candidates should possess a record of excellence in teaching, be committed to student success, and be eager to join a team of dedicated educators in collaborative activities and professional development opportunities. A successful candidate should be capable of demonstrating effective communication and interpersonal skills.

      The job responsibilities of this Instructor of Mathematics position will include:

      1) Teaching four sections per semester (both fall and spring) of in-person and/or online courses. Finite Mathematics and Mathematics of Social Choice will be the focus of this position with additional opportunities to teach mathematical reasoning courses that are designed to equip students and future teachers with competence and confidence in mathematics.
      2) Using a variety of pedagogical approaches.
      3) Participating in course planning and graduate student training and supervision.
      4) Serving the department through administrative responsibilities that may be assigned.
