      Job Summary

      At Comcast we believe that our customer’s right to security and privacy is essential. Where they go on the Internet is their business, not ours. We delete our customer’s DNS queries every 24 hours. We do not sell our customer’s personally identifiable information. We believe that strong privacy is built on the foundation of equally strong cybersecurity.

      To help advance our pursuit of enabling our customer’s security and privacy, we are hiring a cybersecurity researcher on the SPIDER Public Policy team. Do you publish at the Workshop on the Economics of Information Security, Usenix Security, or Internet Measurement Conference, then this role might be for you. Do you have a background in economics and experience at a federal agency then this role might be for you. Do you want to influence the development of effective public policy interventions then this role might be for you.

      Job Description

      Core Responsibilities

      • Collaborate with Comcast Cybersecurity SMEs to determine the impact of specific public policy proposals.

      • Collaborate with Government Affairs, Legal, and Compliance to inform Comcast positions based on SME feedback.

      • Represent Comcast with different industry trade groups and corresponding working groups in cybersecurity and privacy.

      • Represent Comcast at public workstreams by NIST and other government agencies.

      • Write white papers on relevant policy issues to improve stakeholder awareness and knowledge.

      • Write research papers on relevant policy issues to inform external workstreams.

      • Conduct studies to both inform and advance public policy positions.

      • Build relationships outside of Comcast in academia, government, and civil society to better understand different aspects of a policy proposal.

      • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

      • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

      • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • MS (or JD) in Cybersecurity, Privacy, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field. PhD is strongly preferred.

      • Broad understanding of the US legislative and regulatory process.

      • Basic understanding of core cybersecurity concepts (such as CIA, vulnerabilities, etc.) as well as technologies (such as encryption, security protocols, etc.)

      • Basic knowledge of PETs and privacy (such as the difference between security and privacy)

      • Exceptional soft skills. Public Policy is a team sport!

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience at a US government agency, e.g. NIST, FCC, DHS etc.

      • Prior record of publication or public speaking in cybersecurity and/or privacy related public policy vendues.
