      The Company seeks a Legal Counsel to join the Minute Media Legal Department reporting to the Senior Vice President, Legal & Business Affairs and working closely with other members of the company’s legal and business teams in the U.S. and abroad on agreement drafting and negotiation, compliance, and other legal transactional matters for Sports Illustrated, The Players’ Tribune and other Minute Media brands (e.g., Mental Floss, FanSided, etc.) from time to time. The candidate will be proficient in contract drafting and negotiation with strong experience providing hands-on legal counsel for commercial transactions in media/content publishing and licensing, sponsorships/advertising, intellectual property, talent and independent contractor matters. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has strong legal transactional experience, organizational skills and excels in collaboration and navigating a range of challenging legal and business affairs matters across various business units.

      • Draft, review and redline various commercial agreements including, without limitation, publishing agreements, independent contractor agreements, sponsorship agreements, advertising agreements (e.g., insertion orders), talent services agreements, content licensing/distribution agreements, non-disclosure agreements, SaaS/other vendor agreements and production-related agreements (e.g., content compliance, releases, freelancer agreements, equipment rentals, etc.)
      • Facilitate a range of other legal transaction matters customary for an in-house legal environment department of a leading media company including consistent review of assignments with supervisor, legal research and writing, preparation of legal presentations/memoranda and proficient use of organizational workflow tools
      • Liaise frequently with the Legal, Sales, Integrated Marketing, Production Operations, Athlete Partnerships and Finance and business teams in the U.S., Latin America, United Kingdom, and APAC on agreements, deal negotiations and other matters; consult with domestic and international outside counsel on occasion
      • Actively prepare for, and participate in, Legal team and cross-departmental meetings on a regular basis to discuss updates and workflow improvements
      • Counsel, facilitate and support company personnel on business matters from time to time as needed

      Requirements

      • 3-4 years of hands-on legal transactional experience in-house and/or at a reputable law firm
      • Strong contract drafting, review, issue spotting and other legal transactional skills and experience
      • Strong interpersonal skills, including adaptiveness to different personalities and international cultures, working with others in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
      • Hard worker with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
      • Excellent oral and written presentation skills including the ability to summarize complex legal matters clearly
      • Able to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously against sensitive deadlines in a fast-changing environment
      • Working knowledge of the media/content publishing, sponsorships and sports industries
      • Flexibility and willingness to work on various legal matters facing a media or publishing company
      • Proficient in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and standard legal memoranda
      • J.D.; active license to practice in the. U.S. (New York Bar preferred); member of state bar in good standing

      The expected salary range for this position is between $130,000 - $160,000. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The benefits available for this position include flexible vacation policy, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, 401(k) with company match.
