The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence and data science solutions to create a thriving, equitable, and sustainable future for all. PJMF works in partnership with public, private, and social institutions to drive progress on our most pressing challenges, including digital health, climate change, broad digital access, and data maturity in the social sector.

      About the role:

We are seeking an early career Communications Associate to join the PJMF team to spread awareness about the work of the Foundation, our programmatic pathways, and the impactful work being done by our grant partners across the globe. The Communications Associate will have the opportunity to take part in transformative projects and advocacy efforts for the responsible and ethical development of AI and data science. As a Communications Associate, you will acquire hands-on experience in the intersection of technology, philanthropy, and communication and work closely with the Communications team to support various initiatives that amplify our mission and the work of our grant partners.

The Communications Associate will also be a part of the Rising Leaders Program. This two-year professional experience provides exposure across the Foundation and the broader field of philanthropy while providing a holistic professional experience centered on mutual learning, growth, and innovation. The Associate cohort will take part in a leadership-oriented curriculum that will equip them with the necessary skills to advance a career in philanthropy and social impact. Throughout your tenure, our team will work with you to identify the next step in your career journey, and upon completion of the program, PJMF will work to support you to continue a legacy of social impact beyond PJMF.

      • Assist in managing and growing our social media presence across platforms
      • Develop engaging content for our various communication channels, including social media posts, and newsletters
      • Contribute to the planning and execution of events, including webinars, conferences, and community outreach programs
      • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights to understand and communicate team projects and impact
      • Track and analyze the performance of communication efforts, and provide insights or recommendations for optimizing content and engagement strategies
      • Ideate engaging and informative content for the Foundation’s website, blogs, and social media channels
      • Support the creation of knowledge products and maintain a knowledge repository, including performing research on special topics that will advance PJMF’s work
      • Assist with grant partner requests for logo usage, press release review, media mentions, image requests, etc.
      • Monitor requests via our communication inbox
      • Collaborate and gain exposure to other areas of PJMF and the philanthropic field through the Associate Leadership Program

What you need to be successful:
      • Study in areas of communications, public relations, journalism or marketing; or in a related field
      • Familiarity with social media platforms, content creation, and basic graphic design tools
      • Ability to transition between independent, project-based, and team-based work with ease while working remotely
      • Strong written, oral, visual communication and analytical skills
      • Capability to analyze and distill observations, ideas, and feedback into team notes, memos, and visual presentations
      • Proficiency in G-Suite applications and project management tools like Asana
      • Genuine enthusiasm for building a human-centered, tech-enabled future where everyone thrives
      • Work eligibility – Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

      What we offer:
      • Compensation – We anticipate the starting salary range for this role to be $65,000, with flexibility based on graduate-level applicants.
      • Health Coverage – We offer Foundation-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouses or domestic partners and dependents. In addition, we provide HSA/FSA plans, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
      • Long-term Rewards – Our 401(k) retirement plan includes generous matching of up to 6% of annual pay, plus an additional discretionary match at the end of the year.
      • Flexible PTO – Progressive approach to PTO reflecting our respect for diversity, commitment to our team members, and ability to adapt to changing employee values. In addition, the Foundation recognizes 11 paid national holidays per year and may also announce closure for local, regional, or state holidays.
      • Remote Work Environment – Employees work 100% remotely–but not alone–alongside a community of mature, socially minded professionals. We provide a monthly work support stipend to offset the costs of phone, internet, or co-working space.
      • Wellness Support – In addition to our health coverage, we offer access to Ginger+, Active and Fit Gym membership discount, and SmartSpend Plus, along with financial well-being providers
