- supporting districts in implementation of the statewide Computer Science and Data Literacy Standards approved in 2019
- developing and providing information and resources for development of local policies related to digital literacy
- working closely with other content specialists in the department to align practices, communication, and support across content areas
- overseeing updates and revisions to statewide content area standards
- supporting districts in best practice for standards aligned curriculum adoption and local assessment.
- Knowledge of best practices and procedures in computer science and data literacy pedagogy
- Knowledge of best practices in implementation of state academic standards
- Knowledge of technology careers, career pathways, and upcoming developments in the field
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret state and federal rules and regulations related to statewide academic standards
- Experience with project management, including management of collaborative working groups
- Experience providing training to adult learners. Experience providing training to teachers and district staff is preferred.

- A copy of your current Alaska teaching certificate, or proof of eligibility to obtain certification in Alaska prior to the first day of employment
- A list of at least three professional references, two of which are from current or former supervisors, with current contact information.

The Department of Education and Early Development is recruiting statewide for an Education Specialist 2 position specializing in computer science and data literacy.
This position is in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS)
What you will be doing:
This position will support the Department and the State Board of Education in drafting policy related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its use in schools and classrooms.

As a content specialist for DEED, this position has the opportunity to work closely with districts and state education agencies to support best practice in computer science and data literacy pedagogy and to promote related career pathways to Alaska students.

Our main offices are conveniently located on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau, and in the Atwood building in Anchorage. The position has the opportunity for flexible scheduling and teleworking to promote work/life balance Occasional travel may be required.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field.
Substitution: Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years.

Due to the duties assigned to a majority of these positions, applicants may be required to possess an Alaska Teacher Certificate at the time of employment and be required to maintain certification as a condition of employment. Specific endorsements may also be required. Documentation is included in the file of affected positions.
