      This position leads the innovation management and conflict of interest program for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation – including both Professional Staff and certain groups of non-staff individuals. The Director will be responsible for management of office staff, administration of operating budget, and providing leadership to the entire program. You will provide legal analysis and drafting work related to conflicts of interest in research programs and provides guidance on management of conflicts across the organization.

      Job Responsibilities:

      • Serve as a resource to Professional Staff and Cleveland Clinic leadership regarding financial interest disclosures, conflict of interest regulations and policies; provide advice regarding compliance and best practices.
      • Manage office of conflict of interest analysts and database analysts.
      • Develop conflict of interest management plans by researching and analyzing applicable laws and regulations and working with Professional Staff, leadership and other researchers for review and approval by the Innovation Management and Conflict of Interest Committee.
      • Provide legal analysis of existing and proposed laws and regulations related to conflicts of interest in research and other activities. Drafting of legal documents such as conflict management plans and reviewing outside contracts involving staff members.
      • Participate and provide guidance during monthly Committee Meetings.
      • Support institutional research misconduct reviews.
      • Responsible for managing day to day operating budget including vendors.
      • Conduct internal training on conflicts of interest, research misconduct and Sunshine Act.
      • Represent Cleveland Clinic and present at conferences on conflicts of interest and other relevant topics.
      • Participate in AAMC and other national conflict of interest initiatives.
      • Communicate with federal agencies regarding conflicts of interest at Cleveland Clinic; assisted drafting public comments regulations.
      • Draft and maintain Cleveland Clinic conflict of interest policies; provide updates to the organization on conflicts of interest issues attracting regulatory or media attention.
      • Serve as member of Institutional Review Board and Research Compliance Committee; participate in investigations of alleged research misconduct.
      • Participate in research on conflict of interest issues
      • Respond to internal audit findings; improve monitoring of conflict management plans and other compliance initiatives.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Education:

      • Bachelor’s degree required.
      • Master’s degree or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) preferred.

      Certifications:

      • Member in good standing of the Ohio bar or ability to become a member of the Ohio bar within a reasonable period of time is preferred.

      Complexity of Work:

      • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
      • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

      Work Experience:

      • A minimum of 7 years of professional and functionally relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated management experience is required.
      • A Master’s degree may offset 2 years of required experience.

      Preferred Work Experience:

      • Experience working for large health systems or larger organizations
      • 5+ years of experience in Conflict of Interest work
      • Possesses an active Law degree in the state of Ohio, Florida or Nevada
      • Possesses a PH.D.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
      • May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations to attend meetings.
      • Must have normal or corrected vision to normal range and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone.

      Personal Protective Equipment:

      • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
