The Thirlestaine Breast Unit provides symptomatic and screening services to patients in Gloucestershire and parts of Worcestershire and Wales. We are looking for a dynamic consultant Radiologist to join our successful and progressive multiskilled team who work collaboratively for the benefit of our patients. This is a full-time (10 PA's) role under the new consultant contract, with part-time options considered. All conventional Breast Imaging is provided in one unit, with MRI, CT and PET a short walk away. You will be encouraged to take a leading role in service delivery joining a team of three established consultants, each with their special interest within Breast Imaging. We have an active research portfolio and are the largest DGH recruiter to breast imaging trials in the UK.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide symptomatic and screening services.
We offer a full range of imaging and biopsy services, including digital breast tomosynthesis, vacuum-assisted biopsy and undertake many Breast MRI's, for clinical and research purposes and have ready access to PET/CT. In addition to having four FFDM units, two with biopsy capability, and four state-of-the-art ultrasound units, the unit also offers CEM.
There is no on call requirement for general radiology, however, this, and another speciality interest could be offered for the right candidate if they so desire. An interest in Oncological CT would be welcome.
About us
The Breast Surgery and Breast Imaging departments merged in May 2023 to provide one workforce in one Breast unit. We are a progressive team, in that many traditional radiologist roles are now undertaken by advanced practitioners, and some of the surgeon's undertake diagnostic imaging and image guided surgery. We are proud to have supported and trained many of our radiographic staff and Breast clinicians in house. We have trained one Breast clinician for the NBIA Breast clinician credential and we have been accepted as a host site for the next round of NBIA Radiology fellowships.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
