We are seeking applications for Consultant posts in Neurology. You will join an enthusiastic and cohesive team of 10 consultants in the Neurology Directorate covering Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
The Neurology Directorate forms part of the Regional Neurological and Neurophysiological service which provides comprehensive support for both the Trust and a number of neighbouring hospitals.
Main duties of the job
We provide general Neurology clinics at New Cross Hospital, Cannock Hospital, West Park Hospital and across Shropshire. Botulinum Toxin clinic and a joint Movement Disorder clinic run by a Consultant Neurologist and an Elderly Care Physician and well-established Epilepsy, MS and Parkinson Services. All Neurology Consultants at New Cross Hospital hold honorary contracts with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for specialty clinics and audit/research. The Neurology Department also provides daily in-reach to inpatients on the New Cross Hospital site, but also the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospitals in Shropshire as part of a service level agreement. The Clinical Neurophysiology Department is part of the Neurology Directorate and there are 2 Consultants in Neurophysiology, with a third joining early 2023 and a team of Clinical Physiologists working across the sites.

Job responsibilities
To provide outpatient and inpatient neurology service for the Trust and the Shropshire community and offer specialist advice to ensure appropriate requesting to support diagnosis or management of neurological issues.
To provide a cross- cover arrangements for neurology including annual leave cover for all in-patient and outpatient services.
To develop such special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of the department.
To develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate, where appropriate, in clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
To take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors in the department (where applicable). The post holder will be expected to be Clinical Supervisor for those juniors allocated to the ward for which the consultant is responsible and may wish to undertake training to become an Educational Supervisor.
The post holder may also be involved in the teaching of 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students from Birmingham Medical School. There is the possibility of becoming academy tutor and honorary lecturer.
To develop and maintain excellent communications with general practitioners and appropriate external agencies.
To demonstrate a firm commitment to Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit: this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice.
To ensure own practice is up-to-date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participating in the Trusts Performance Review.
Appropriate secretarial support, IT and office facilities will be provided by the Trust. Office facilities are on-site but may be shared with other consultants.
