      This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time or job share applications will be considered.

      The post has been created to support the existing consultants and specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and to continue to develop the skin cancer service. Whilst the role will be based primarily at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites in Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. The department provides secretarial support and office accommodation. The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service.

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service. This post will be support a sub-specialist interest in the management of skin cancer and the development of a sentinel lymph node biopsy service and Mohs micrographic surgical service.

      This post will include being a core member of the skin MDT in conjunction with Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Histopathology

      Delivery of outpatient clinics, elective inpatient and day case surgery in Pinderfields General Hospital, Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary

      Urgent and emergency care duties including out of hours on call working within the provisions of working time regulations and safe working. On call duties are shared with Leeds Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit on a 1:12 rota currently assessed at 1PA.

      Participation of teaching, training and audit, educational and clinical supervision of core trainees and specialist registrars

      Provision of advice and support to the clinical team and peers in a range of clinical and/or leadership situations in a professional and appropriate manner which inspires confidence, motivation, and teamwork within the field.

      The department includes Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, and Community Dental Service. Our team is made up of enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals supported by a dedicated specialty-secretariat, with office and networked computer facilities.

      We serve a population of approximately 650,000 covering Wakefield, Pontefract and Dewsbury. Our main base is in Wakefield. We have a fully equipped and modern out-patient department including 9 clinic rooms, 2 major treatment rooms, a recovery area and a maxillofacial laboratory. We have an out-patient department in Dewsbury with 2 clinic rooms and a minor treatment room.

      The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service currently has 5 consultants (2 visiting), 6 Specialty Doctors, 2 Specialty Registrars and 11 core trainees. The Orthodontic clinical team includes 4 part-time consultants, 2 specialty registrars and 2 orthodontic therapists. The Community Dentistry Service has 1 consultant, 2 specialist dentists, 1 senior dental officers and 3 dental officers and are based over multiple sites.

      The consultant body covers most sub-specialty areas with the exception of major head and neck cancer surgery.
