      You will join a strong Renal Consultant team providing specialist services to the region. We treat patients from east and west Kent; with a Centre Haemodialysis Unit at Kent and Canterbury Hospital with five Satellite Units covering east and west Kent at; Margate, Medway , Maidstone, Ashford and Folkstone,. In conjunction with Guy's Hospital London, we have a thriving Transplant team bring our patient back to the renal team at the earliest opportunity.

      Duties will include: supporting Renal Inpatient Services, Renal On calls, Renal Rapid Assessment 'Hot Clinics' to provide admission avoidance and early discharge to support acute front door services; outpatient management of Nephrology, Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis patients; teaching both within the department and the wider organisation in this is an exciting and innovative new role.

      Supporting our 14 Consultant Nephrologist are: 12 Junior doctors encompass: 6 x Specialty Training Registrars; 2 x IMT; 2 x FY2s and 2 x FY1. You will also be working with an incredibly robust Nursing, AHP and A&C teams. Team Working is how we assist our patients to live the 'best life possible' within the patient care and creating robust services.

      Main duties of the job

      This post will provide five core specialist roles:

      • Acute inpatient Renal Medicine on Marlowe Ward at Kent and Canterbury Hospital (1 month in every 5 months)
      • Renal On-calls: 1 in 10
      • Renal rapid assessment 'Hot Clinics' and Renal specialist advice and in-reach on the QEQM site 2-3 days each week
      • General Nephrology clinic alternate weeks at Kent and Canterbury Hospital
      • Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis clinical responsibility at both QEQM and Kent and Canterbury Hospital

      This post will initially be based around a 10 PA clinical job plan, including time for SPA (supporting professional activities) and administrative time.

      There will also be a number of potential additional exciting opportunities available and open to you including:

      • Teaching for the new Kent and Medway Medical School or the GKT School of Medical Education, King's College London
      • Procedure supervision and to assist in our desire to develop a Local Anaesthetic Peritoneal Dialysis (LAPD) Service
      • Supporting our Home Therapies Renal Network KQUIP (Kidney Quality Improvement Partnership) project

      Essential

      • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
      • Member of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
      • Entry on the GMC specialist register for Renal Medicine via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), OR relevant CESR
      • SCE in Renal
      • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS, or graduate of a UK Medical School

      Desirable

      • Good Clinical Practice training

      • Wide knowledge, competence and experience in all areas of inpatient and outpatient renal medicine
      • Previous NHS experience
