      Job summary

      This full-time job represents an exciting opportunity to work in a busy, dynamic Plastic Surgery Department with one of the largest and best recognised Melanoma Units in the UK, with a referral pattern both locally and nationally.

      Main duties of the job

      Appointee is expected to be competent to offer our patients sentinel lymph node biopsy surgery, and nodal block dissections of the axilla, and groin. Successful candidate is expected to be versatile in all aspects of plastic surgery trauma requiring input during on call. New appointee will work closely with colleagues from Dermatology, Oncology and Radiotherapy departments and be part of a truly multidisciplinary skin cancer service. The post attracts a 1:12 on-call commitment alongside a 1:12 Trauma Consultant of the week rota. Part of this job will incorporate clinical duties at the Royal Surrey County Hospital (one day a week) aiming to facilitate network pathway for skin cancer patients and offer general plastic surgery support.

      The appointee is expected to develop and undertake research in the field of skin cancer surgery, undertake teaching duties of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff as well as allied health professionals. Participation in audit and research and Trust clinical governance programme will be essential.

      The appointee will be expected to: support the skin oncology service offer Sentinel Lymph node biopsy to patients. be able to undertake block dissections of the axilla and groin, including above the inguinal ligament resections undertake or be trained in electrochemotherapy work closely with the Dermatology, Oncology and Radiotherapy, in providing Melanoma and non-melanoma skins cancer. participate in the emergency workload and be competent in management of adult and paediatric hand trauma liaise with consultant colleagues to provide internal cover for annual and/or sick leave for on call duties; under exceptional circumstances this may require some flexibility in the appointees hours. participate in a Trauma Consultant of the week model (4 times a year) when normal morning commitments are replaced with ward round and trauma cover contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff and medical students.
