      We are currently hiring a Controller to join the team at our Evaporation Facility in Goderich, Ontario.

      Compass Minerals’ Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine that is used for deicing and water conditioning.

      Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.


      HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM?

      To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

      Summary: Position is responsible for executing accounting and control functions at/for full scale Evaporation and packaging plant for Food, Edible, Industrial and Deicing salt at Goderich in Ontario, Canada. Incumbent is the finance business partner at their site and provides counsel and advice to the plant manager and colleagues as well as management in Overland Park.

      The incumbent will ensure proper adherence to company controls through cross-functional collaboration. This includes but is not limited to completion of SOX control protocols, monitoring inventory observations and reconciliations, maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of month end journal entries and adjustments, proper interfaces with other systems, as well as preparation of standardized reporting protocols and any other duties that may arise from time to time.

      Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

      Maintain production location general ledger in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

      • Oversight of all site-dedicated finance activities and effective cross-functional oversight and collaboration to ensure completeness and accuracy of the general ledger.
      • Execute closing activities, prepare, and review month-end closing entries.
      • Maintain detailed accounting information, evolve to improve efficiencies, both departmentally and cross-functionally while adhering to policy-driven processes.
      • Improve and maintain control environment. Execute SOX requirements.
      • Support site management with analysis and ad hoc reporting, review financial results with local management monthly, providing guidance and identifying areas for cost savings.
      • Support corporate management with ad hoc reporting, complex analysis, and development of business case information to support the operations.
      • Execute standardized reporting protocol including financial cost statements.
      • Lead all budgeting and forecasting processing processes, actively seeking input from operations personnel.

      Qualifications:

      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

      Education and/or Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
      • 10+ years of experience including experience in a mining, manufacturing, or operational environment.
      • Experience working for a publicly traded company utilizing standard costs preferred.
      • CPA, CMA certification preferred.
      • Advanced level proficiency with Excel; JD Edwards, Coupa and One Stream experience a plus
