- Responsible for independently designing and leading plant automation, control and data acquisition projects from concept to implementation in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while working with a team of internal and external resources.
- Support project management responsibilities as needed, including scope definition, cost estimates, change control, integration, commissioning, and process qualification, focused in the controls and automation scope of assigned projects.
- Support the plant floor control network. Implement and audit compliance with the corporate IT/OT network strategy.
- Partner with other corporate Engineering resources and the IT function to review and approve machine network topologies and IP address allocation, optimizing the equipment for remote accessibility, diagnostics, backups, data collection, and cybersecurity.
- Work with operations and manufacturing resources to identify optimal solutions for automating manufacturing and packaging processes in ways that deliver positive financial returns.
- Provide troubleshooting, problem analysis and technical support to the plants as needed for both newly-implemented and legacy systems (including but not limited to hardware, electrical, safety, pneumatic, network, PLC, HMI, Robot, SCADA, and MES).
- Manage controls and automation scope for OEMs and Engineering services providers through initial specification, development, design reviews, installation, commissioning, qualification and production.
- Lead development and implementation of controls standards for manufacturing equipment.
- Write, review, and approve PLC and motion control logic. Create, review, and approve user HMI and SCADA screens that are user-friendly and suitable for operating and troubleshooting equipment.
- Implement MES systems as needed on new and existing equipment, integrating them to our Enterprise MES systems.
- Continually learn and research new technologies that can be applied to further our business objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with focus on Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automation and Controls (or other related degree).
- 5+ years Engineering experience in food or CPG manufacturing industry.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Able to work cooperatively and effectively with a multidisciplinary technical team.
- Strong leadership skills, with prior experience having lead project teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively and seek critical feedback from operations personnel tasked with interacting daily with the systems designed and/or implemented by the Engineering team.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
- Superior problem-solving skills, root cause analysis and willingness to take a hands-on approach to troubleshooting process control hardware and software.
- Able to effectively lead contractors on site or remotely to safely complete critical project tasks on time and on budget while meeting all aspects of the specified project scope of work.
- Experience programming PLCs, motion control, HMIs and SCADA systems on major commercial platforms (Rockwell experience preferred).
- Experience programing and interfacing PLCs with industrial robots.
- Strong project management skills (planning, scheduling, and project execution).
- Ability to design network infrastructure, including managed switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN devices in support of plant control networks.
- Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time to support projects at manufacturing plants as needed.
- Must be willing to work altered schedules / overtime as needed to support the business in a continuous production manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to navigate a manufacturing environment where PPE is required and where temperatures may fall outside of comfortable ranges.
- This role will require extended hours based on production needs, including work to be performed after regular business hours and on weekends.
- Will work extensively in a food production manufacturing environment. In many instances production equipment is located in refrigerated and frozen environments as dictated by Food Safety requirements.
- While working in manufacturing plants, will need to wear Personal Protective Equipment (hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hard hats when in construction zones).

The Controls and Automation Engineer is responsible for design and project execution for controls and automation scope at our various manufacturing facilities. He/she will: provide controls and automation expertise for the specification, installation, start-up and operation of plant equipment necessary to successfully deliver projects; serve as a subject matter expert on automation, controls and electrical systems; identify automation opportunities that deliver positive return on investment; and support the controls network architecture for optimal IT/OT integration across the enterprise.Job Locations:
This role is part of our Monogram Foods Support Center in Memphis, TN; however, we are open to remote candidates located near any of our plants or major airports for easy travel. Our plant locations include:
