      Access & Advocacy fosters student success by ensuring an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all students. The coordinator assists in building a caring, inclusive community by working with students and campus departments, and connecting students to campus and off-campus resources. Additionally, the coordinator maintains disability-related documents, determines eligibility for services, and recommends reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The coordinator reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      Basic Needs Support, Case Management, and Education (30%)
      • Assists in managing referrals of behavioral, academic, and social concerns on campus; provides non-clinical case management services to students by providing them with information, resources, and support through connection with housing agencies, social services, mental health services, financial support agencies, food services, and other basic needs resources for students
      • Conducts intakes and needs assessment, oversees the SHARE Center, to include coordination of external partners and resources to support students’ basic needs; accurately maintains records of interactions with students, compliance with recommendations, and connections to services
      • Assists students in making use of University and community services and benefits by monitoring and tracking individual cases and progress, conducting on-going assessment and addressing new or emerging concerns
      • Participates in the University’s CARE and Threat Assessment Teams to support the safety and overall well-being of the university community; ensures a proactive and collaborative approach to provide interventions for students of concern; manages a caseload of students within Maxient; gathers data from campus, follows up on interventions, and tracks student progress
      Disability Support and Education (50%)
      • Manages a caseload of students with disabilities by coordinating the interactive process to assess each student who self-identifies and applies for services; determines eligibility based on interpretation of documentation, applicable law, university policy, and in consultation with academic departments; maintains accurate student records
      • Coordinates access to assistive technology and related support services; educates and trains students and volunteers in notetaking technology; assists in the coordination of interpreting and captioning services for courses and campus events for students; maintains communication with contracted vendors (sign language interpreters, live transcribing, FM systems, closed captioning, etc.)
      • Keeps abreast of trends in disability issues in higher education, including state and federal legislation case law
      Campus and Community Partnerships, Involvement, and Outreach (10%)
      • Creates and maintains collaborative partnerships across campus to inform the community of student needs; assists in collaborating with other university departments to educate, facilitate and solve issues to provide a safe, inclusive, and equitable access to all students
      • Develops and maintains a database of referral resources for social service agencies within the local community; facilitate relationships with off-campus agencies and resources to connect students to long-term support
      • Keeps up to date on issues related to a holistic perspective of college student success and well-being, including issues related to access to basic needs, mental health, academic preparation, etc.; maintains database of campus and community resources; informs campus community of trends and interventions for students of concern
      Policy Development and Assessment (10%)

      • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to area of responsibility
      • Prepares reports, statistics, assessments, evaluations, and presentations documenting advocacy and disability support
      • Identifies and applies for funding opportunities that address homelessness/displacement, food insecurity, legal aid, financial literacy, childcare, and transportation
      • Ensures accuracy of print and online publications related to the areas of responsibility, and creates assessment and end of year reports as appropriate

      Qualifications

      Required qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree with preference given to concentrations in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Education, Counseling, or a related area
      • Minimum of one year’s experience and knowledge of disability laws as they pertain to higher education
      • Minimum of one year experience in case management
      • Demonstrated detail orientation and commitment to practicing thoroughness, accuracy, and consistency when accomplishing tasks
      • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, problem solving, and communication skills
      • An ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when handling ambiguity or sensitive issues
      • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and cases
      • Strong administrative and organizational abilities to effectively manage multiple cases, resources, and referrals
      Preferred qualifications:
      • Knowledgeable of student security and privacy requirements including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
      • Experience in managing a diverse caseload is preferred
      • Knowledge of assistive technology and database management (i.e., Maxient, AIM) is preferred
