      CMVM/The Roslin Institute/Functional Genetics

      Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week

      Contract Type - Fixed term: Until 31st March 2025.

      We are looking for a core scientist / post-doctoral research associate to join an established research group investigating mechanisms of calcification.

      The Opportunity:

      Applications are invited for an exciting post-doctoral equivalent position funded by the Roslin Institute’s core strategic funding in the division of Functional Genetics. The post is within Dr Vicky MacRae’s research group at The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh.

      The post holder will use a multidisciplinary approach to delineate the key pathways underpinning the process of calcification within both vascular and bone tissues. The successful candidate will be expected to have, or be near completion of, a PhD in a related field and have experience in mouse models, molecular biology and cell culture.

      The individual appointed to this position will support the MacRae group’s research efforts through planning and conducting experiments, analysing data, and production of high-quality scientific publications. They will also support the Roslin Institute’s wider scientific community through collaboration, taking part in public engagement activities, and/or serving on committees.

      Your skills and attributes for success:

      • PhD level training in relevant field (e.g cardiovascular biology) is desirable.
      • Experience working with small and large animal models, including isolation of cells from tissues for culture.
      • Advanced knowledge of 2D & 3D cell culture and iPS cell generation.
      • Extensive experience in imaging and molecular biology techniques, including CRISPR gene editing.
      • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
