      Chamber of Progress is looking for a Vice President or Senior Counsel of Legal Advocacy to direct Chamber of Progress’ participation in litigation to advance the organization’s mission. The lawyer in this role is responsible for monitoring legal developments and identifying opportunities to shape such developments, including creating strategies, legal arguments, and court filings. This lawyer will also contribute to the organization’s public policy advocacy at the federal and state level.

      Responsibilities
      • Drive the organization’s legal advocacy strategy, including amicus briefs, litigation against state and federal laws, and legal analysis of policy proposals
      • Follow legal developments – including case law and federal and state legislation – that impact the ability of platforms to promote healthy online communities through content moderation
      • Provide rapid response commentary on legal developments through social media, blog posts, and media interviews.
      • Identify cases for participation as amici where Chamber of Progress can influence the court’s interpretation of a legal question of importance to our mission.
      • Manage litigation against state-level laws
      • Develop Chamber of Progress’ legal and policy arguments for amicus briefs and other filings; drafting briefs or supervising outside counsel as needed.
      • Manage outside counsel, court deadlines, and work with corporate partners
      • Review and advise on Chamber of Progress participation in, or support of, other organizations’ legal filings.
      • Drive opportunities to engage in legal advocacy outside of court, including through outreach to government agencies, research papers and writing projects, and other mechanisms.
      • Represent our legal advocacy work before corporate partners, policymakers, press, and other stakeholders at industry events, public hearings, conferences, coalition meetings, and on social media
      • Lead legal advocacy strategies for Generate & Create, our campaign in defense of fair use in generative artificial intelligence
      • Establish Chamber of Progress as a trusted source of legal analysis in the tech policy space.


      Qualifications
      • J.D. and bar admission, in good standing, in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
      • Senior Director: At least 10 years of post-college work and/or law school experience
      • Vice President: At least 15 years of post-college work and/or law school experience
      • Familiarity with legal case tracking tools
      • Experience with technology legal and policy issues, in particular Section 230 and the First Amendment, intermediary liability, privacy, and copyright. Experience with antitrust or labor issues is a plus.
      • Experience analyzing the potential impacts proposed legislation and regulation.
      • Proven ability to convey complex information in a concise, clear, and conversational manner
      • Outstanding writing abilities–must be a creative, succinct, and fast writer
      • Comfort with using social media for advocacy
      • Strong organizational skills


      Compensation and Benefits
      • Full-time exempt position, with starting salary and level dependent upon experience level
      • Senior Director: starting salary between $140,000 - $180,000 annually
      • Vice President: starting salary between $190,000 - $240,000 annually
      • Position can be located anywhere within the continental United States. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available.
