      Career Opportunity

      The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Court Compliance Officer. This position provides supervision and case management services for individuals in one or more judicial departments to ensure that judicial orders are adhered; provides referrals to community resources and community agencies; attends court, provides information and testifies during hearings; and completes assessments, develops case plans and performs drug and alcohol testing.

      Examination Process (Supplemental Questionnaire)

      A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a City position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date.


      The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only.

      Eligible List

      You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.


      Selection Process

      Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, education and experience verification, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.

      Supervision Received
      Receives general supervision from the Court Services Supervisor and higher level management staff.

      Essential Functions:

      1. Provides ongoing supervision and case management services on behalf of individuals mandated to complete sentencing requirements.
      2. Reviews court-mandated requirements and provides individualized supervision to assure compliance; communicates in person, by phone and by electronic means. Authorizes extensions of time for completion of requirements, requests warrants and show cause hearings and provides recommendations for case disposition when there is non-compliance.
      3. Monitors compliance with court ordered programs and payments; renegotiates payments if there are arrears; accepts payments.
      4. Applies evidence-based techniques and best practices when interacting with individuals and applying sanctions or incentives.
      5. Identifies risks and needs through interviewing and administering formal risk assessment tools, and develops case plans.
      6. Assists management with evaluating services; acts as liaison between the court and social service agencies, including researching and discussing rehabilitation and community services programs that are currently available or may be offered in the future.
      7. Enters, updates and retrieves data from a variety of databases and computer systems; generates reports. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding cases, data, information and reports. Collects and provides information in accordance with established policies, principles and laws of confidentiality.
      8. Attends court hearings; reviews case files prior to hearings, verifies that files are complete, accurate, and up to date; submits written and oral reports and issues affidavits regarding compliance and progress with court-ordered requirements; places those who are non-compliant on calendar for judicial review.
      9. Prepares and maintains a variety of automated and manual forms, records and files.
      10. Responds to all inquiries in a courteous, professional and timely manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
      11. Administers drug and alcohol tests; distributes the results to the appropriate parties.
      12. Uses NCIC, SCOPE, NCJIS, and other criminal justice information systems to obtain information; assist with class and program enrollment.


      Marginal Functions:

      1. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
      2. May participate in the development and drafting of unit policies.

      Experience:

      Three years of experience interacting with individuals involved in the criminal justice system, social services agencies, criminal legal offices or closely related agencies or organizations.

      Training:

      Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, counseling, psychology, sociology or a closely related behavioral science.

      May substitute combination of equivalent education and related experience. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.

      License or Certificate:
      Must obtain applicable level of NCIC/NCJIS certification and/or training within 6 months of the date of appointment and maintain proficiency as needed.

      Special Requirement

      Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
      Training in Motivational Interviewing desirable.

      Ability to:

      Learn the operations and practices of the court as it relates to compliance including pretrial services, alternative sentencing programs, community service and work programs, fine collections and house arrest.
      Learn and apply relevant Las Vegas Municipal Court policies and procedures.
      Learn to operate the court's computer and case management systems.
      Interview individuals to collect accurate information on personal history and prior offenses.
      Read, understand, interpret, and apply NRS and NAC regulatory policies pertaining to criminal records, DMV standards, educational courses, licensing requirements, and record keeping.
      Work independently, and prioritize and organize work under minimal supervision.
      Analyze information to develop sound, logical conclusions when administering assessments to develop case plans and provide adequate information and supervision.
      Write concise, detailed notes and reports pertaining to probation cases, status of cases and other relevant information.
      Process a high volume of work under specified time constraints.
      Update and maintain case files accurately and in a timely manner.
      Use tact and diplomacy when interacting with individuals who are upset, angry, confused, under the influence of narcotics and alcohol, or emotionally and psychologically disturbed.
      Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
      Display effective communication skills when interacting with judges, attorneys, caseworkers, or any other professional contacts, as well as in providing statements during court proceedings.
