      POSITION TITLE/DEPARTMENT: Curatorial Intern – European Art

      CLASSIFICATION/GRADE: Part-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary (12 weeks)

      SALARY RANGE: 24 hours per week, $16.50 per hour

      GENERAL SUMMARY

      As an established and respected organization, the DIA is an excellent place for interns to explore interests in museums and non-profits. Beyond learning about the art collections, interns are able to contribute to everything that helps the museum run smoothly. Interns will work under the guidance and supervision of a DIA professional on a specific project with established learning outcomes.

      The Curatorial Intern – European Art will gain an understanding of curatorial work in an encyclopedic museum. The intern will research the DIA’s European paintings, sculpture and decorative arts collections and will contribute to the documentation of those collections.

      Tasks and Projects Include:

      • Consultation of resources at the DIA’s Research Library and Archives, electronic databases, and other sources to compile research documentation.
      • Creation, maintenance, and augmentation of permanent collection object files and digital files.
      • Preparation of research to support training materials on the European Art collections that will be used to support the DIA’s Gallery Teachers and IPV programs.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      Successful candidates must be studying at an undergraduate sophomore level or above in one of the following fields of study at an accredited university: Art History, History Modern Languages, or related Humanities field.

      Candidates must possess strong research and organizational skills.

      Proficiency in latest version of Office 365, including SharePoint, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and

      Excel is required.

      This internship is blended and will include on site and virtual work.

      DIA Internship experiences have the following preferences:

      • Candidates from Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb Counties.
      • Will be given to those who have not had an internship at the DIA.
