      Major Responsibilities:

      • Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the physical and mechanical maintenance of a building/facility such as a Long-Term Care Home.
      • Monitors and maintains the environment, mechanical and structural integrity of building/facility.
      • Provides direction and training to staff.
      • Monitors and evaluates the work assignments of directed staff.
      • Initiates building maintenance work orders and purchase requests.
      • Spends funds within approved budget limits for defined building/facility maintenance expenditure categories.
      • Provides input into a defined portion of the building/facility-operating budget.
      • Provides information regarding major work including the planning and implementation of major work and site specific contracts.
      • Maintains all building/facility security and safety systems.
      • Performs fire safety and life safety tests, inspections and checks according to legislated requirements and facility standards.
      • Works with tenants, users, police, fire, officials and security contractors to keep the building/facility safe and secure.
      • Checks systems and reports malfunctions.
      • Maintains logs/records.
      • Monitors and evaluates the work of outside contractors and in house tradespeople and maintenance staff.
      • Initiates charges to user accounts for damages and chargeable services.
      • May be required to travel to various work locations.
      • Performs a variety of skilled work not requiring the services of other licensed trades.
      • Performs other related work as assigned.

      Key Qualifications:

      Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

      1. Post-secondary education in building and/or facility operations or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
      1. Experience in general mechanical maintenance, repairs, testing and adjustments of all types of mechanical, electrical and lifesaving equipment and systems.
      2. Experience of construction and maintenance of all types of complex buildings such as a long- term care facility.
      3. Experience in the repair and maintenance of buildings, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, instruments and meters.

      You must also have:

      • Familiarity with and ability to use necessary tools and equipment.
      • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
      • Knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code and applicable building regulations.
      • Ability to read drawings, make sketches and maintain neat legible records.
      • Ability to provide effective work direction to other employees as required.
      • Ability to maintain sites with multiple buildings and with significant exterior spaces/grounds.
      • May be required to possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License and qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
      • Ability to operate, lift and move various equipment, supplies and other heavy items.
      • Ability to work shift/weekend/overtime and/or on call duty as required.

      As a condition of employment with the Long-Term Care Homes & Services Division, selected candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (PRC) with vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act (O.Reg.79/10).
