- Provides accurate and timely translations of various IEP documents and evaluation reports.
- Proof-reads and edits final translated versions of the source text.
- Validates the translation of documents translated using Google translation and/or other tools and makes corrections to ensure translated material is suitable for the intended readers.
- Ability to manage multiple, varied projects simultaneously and independently.
- Understands special education terminology and processes.
- Meets all deadlines for translation per Illinois School Code.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Adheres to Board of Education policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree - preferred
- Translation experience required
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Exhibits cultural awareness and sensitivity
- A clear writing style with an impeccable knowledge of spelling and grammar
- Knowledge and training regarding special education terminology and processes
- Trained in providing the interpretations requested and sufficiently, knowledgeable in both languages of any specialized terminology needed, and trained in the ethics of interpretation
- Experience with office and school-based management systems - preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable and pleasant demeanor in busy environments
- Ability to:

Lake Forest Elementary D67 is seeking an hourly stipend Translation Specialist(s) to translate vital IEP documents from English to Polish.
Description: The Translation Specialist supports the implementation of the Illinois School Code Section 226.500 Language of Notifications which states that Written translation of the Vital Documents List into the ten most commonly spoken languages in Illinois, other than English, must be provided to Limited English Proficiency parents of children with disabilities. This requirement includes translation of the individualized substance of documents on the Vital Documents List. A translated Parent/Guardian Notification of Conference Recommendations form and all other applicable elements of the IEP forms must be provided simultaneously with English IEP documents and all reasonable efforts to provide the IEP within seven school days after the IEP meeting must be made, or as soon as possible thereafter. All other vital IEP documents must be translated and provided to parents as soon as practical but not more than 30 school days after the IEP meeting. Parents may request translation of documents not on the Vital Documents List that have a vital relation to the child’s educational planning through the same process identified on the Notification of Conference form, and school districts must make reasonable efforts to provide the requested translations in a timely manner. All translations must be performed by competent translators who have undergone sufficient professional training regarding special education terminology and processes, or by outside vendors that are commercially recognized as providing competent translation services; or, if a school district elects to utilize an automated translation program or application, the results must be reviewed and edited, as needed, by an individual qualified to determine the accuracy of the translation. All translations must be certified to be true and accurate by the translator to the best of the translator’s knowledge or ability.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, drive, talk, hear, reach, grasp, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift. Repetitive motions are required. The employee must lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and is subject to noises associated with both office and educational environments.
