      We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s student body as a three-year appointment - Lecturer I in Collaborative Piano to join the Department of Dance in the Fall of 2024. Although this position will be within the Dance Department, it is expected that the new hire will also provide accompaniment services to the School of Music. The Dance Department is seeking candidates with experience in providing accompaniment for a variety of dance technique classes, including ballet, modern dance, and possibly flamenco and folklórico when needed. Other responsibilities include teaching the required dance major course and serving as the music director/consultant to the dance faculty in their endeavors to find musical direction or additional accompaniment for classes and/or performances.
      The School of Music responsibilities include accompanying students, faculty, and guest artists. The ideal candidate should be familiar with a wide range of instrumental and vocal collaborative repertoire. Other courses may be assigned by the director of the School of Music. This position requires collaboration with the current Dance Department and School of Music faculty and will involve instruction on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. Successful candidates will be assigned the standard academic teaching load for a lecturer.

      Department/College Background:

      The UTRGV Dance Department prepares students to succeed as teachers, performers, choreographers, and scholars by studying diverse styles of dance genres and traditions; conducting research, performing and producing dance, and collaborating with each other as well as local, national, and international guest artists. Through the practice of a variety of dance techniques, extensive performance opportunities, and in depth study of the historical, philosophical, and scientific theories behind dance, we expand the understanding of dance and enrich the cultural life in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. The Dance Department has 65 majors and 6 dedicated faculty members. Degree programs include two BA in Dance degree options, one with Teacher Certification and the other a more flexible liberal arts degree. We also offer 2 professional BFA degree options, one with a focus on modern dance and ballet, and the other with a concentration in Mexican Dance. The UTRGV Dance Department was recently granted Associate Membership by the National Association of Schools of Dance.
      The UTRGV School of Music is located on the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses and prepares students to succeed as teachers, performers, and scholars by studying diverse musical styles, genres, and traditions; conducting research; and collaborating with each other as well as with local, national, and global communities. Through extensive community engagement, service learning, and exceptional performance opportunities, we expand the understanding of music and enrich the cultural life in our local society and beyond. The School of Music has over 400 students and over 50 faculty members. Degrees offered include Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification, Bachelor of Music in Performance, and Master Degrees in Music Education, Performance, Ethnomusicology, and Conducting.
