      PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

      CPKC is looking for an Engineering Data Scientist to enhance rail integrity inspection system accuracy, to automatize processing of data from different engineering detectors and track evaluation technologies, and to create actionable reports for different departments.

      POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

      • Process, analyze and manage data from various detectors
      • Analyze data with the goal of improving alerting algorithms accuracy
      • Drill down on system failure root causes
      • Produce actionable reports for maintenance and capital planning teams
      • Collaborate on projects with Operations teams to support repair requests and site improvements
      • Maintain electronic maintenance plans and spare parts list
      • Lead troubleshooting of incidents or defects that arise in supported applications and ensure a timely resolution. Ensure that all stakeholders are informed on progress
      • Identify areas for design improvement and/or resolve incidents
      • Enhance and customize data architecture

      POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

      • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field is required
      • Electrical Engineering background will be considered
      • Strong data analytics experience required
      • Machine Learning: must have deep understanding of ML algorithms (i.e. deep learning, random forest, gradient boosted trees, k-means clustering, etc.) and its development, validation, and evaluation

      • Programming: experience with Python, R or other scripting language, and database language (e.g. SQL) or data manipulation (e.g. Pandas)
      • Every 4th week - On call support; 24/7 availability required

      • Distinctive problem-solving skills, pulling data from large datasets and using statistics to arrive at a recommendation
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information and analysis results effectively
      • Must be proficient with MS Office (specifically Word and Excel)
      • Practical hands-on experience (automotive, electronics) an asset
      • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
      • Valid passport, ability to travel to United States
