You will be extracting data from a variety of legacy mainframe databases, mapping the raw data to new database systems in either the cloud or on-premises data solutions, formatting and importing client data from legacy systems to modern data environments-all using your knowledge of data structures, data relationships and data strategy.
What will your job look like? You will:
- Collaborate with mainframe migration teams to find solutions to cross code and data related bugs and issues
- Convert database structures and application data from mainframe technologies (Adabas, IDMS, VSAM, DB2 zOS) to the equivalent RDBMS structures in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and others
- Clearly define the root cause of problems using defect reporting tools
- Validate customer data in destination systems
- Provide clear descriptions and feedback on tool performance for the RND team
- Complete database performance analysis, and tune runtime and data loading performance where applicable
- Consult and guide team on issues encountered
- Configure and populate relational databases on Linux/Windows or in the Cloud
- Leverage your broad experience across various cloud DBMS services, operations, interfaces and installations to compare and recommend implementation solutions
All you need is... - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 7+ years' expert experience with relational and transactional languages as a DBA (DDL, DML, TCL, etc.)
- 3+ years' experience modernizing mainframe data systems
- Experience with both Windows and Linux
- Understanding of z/OS and/or Unisys based database systems
- Understanding of IMS, VSAM, JCL, COBOL
- Familiarity with SQL language structures and performance tuning
- Experience with scripting languages (Powershell, bash, Python, etc.)
- Experience with various cloud DBMS services
