- Organizes, prepares, and curates data sets for research and health plans / claims operations.
- Performs source system analysis for electronic claims records and other ancillary systems.
- Develops key components of the data science infrastructure, including data models, knowledge resources, and data-driven tools to support research and quality initiatives.
- Defines and maintains standard phenotypes and member cohorts for clinical research and healthcare operations.
- Recommends and integrates controlled medical terminologies in data normalization, and prepares standardized data extract processes for research and analysis.
- Strong database programming skills (e.g. SQL, PL/SQL, etc.) as well as data preparation and data analysis skills.
- Experience architecting data-driven solutions within healthcare and or life sciences industries.
- Sound understanding of clinical information systems, academic research and training activities.
- Demonstrated technical abilities in one or more of the following areas: data-driven web applications, electronic medical records, or analytics.
- Excellent analysis, problem-solving skills, & inter-personal skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent, OR Bachelor's degree or greater in a clinical discipline with extensive experience in clinical information systems, electronic data.
- 2 years of experience with electronic medical records, data modeling, and data preparation/analysis.
- Knowledge and experience in data-driven applications and analytics in healthcare.
- Master's degree in Biomedical Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Sciences, or equivalent.
- Data manipulation experience using both code and/or MS SQL and Oracle SQL queries.
- Previous experience building and maintaining data sets for a health plan/payer.
- Experience with optimizing large data sets.
- Domain knowledge and experience in health plans/payer claims.
- Epic knowledge (Epic Clarity Data warehouse).
- Experience with statistical methods & tools, data-mining, machine learning, and other modeling and simulation tools.
- This is a sedentary position that may exert up to 10 pounds and may lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position involves sitting most of the time and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

This is a local on-site position in the Salt Lake City, UT area.
The Data Science Analyst (DSA) participates in various aspects of data extraction, transformation, loading, processing and preparation of data sets, data analysis and data-driven applications for healthcare research and operations. The DSA works collaboratively with end-users including researchers to recommend strategies for data analysis, serves as the front-line support for data-related questions & requests from end-users, and is responsible for standardizing, documenting and maintaining a repertoire of answers and solutions to common problems. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
