      About the position

      CSL Australia is currently looking for a permanent full time Deck Watchkeeper to join our transhipment operation in Western Australia. The role of a Deck Watchkeeper is to act as the deck and mooring equipment operator. It differs from a traditional Deck Officer position on a blue water vessel. This role would suit someone who has previously worked in a similar environment to Cape Preston (or the North West region) and is used to operating in hot weather year-round.

      In addition, the Deck Watchkeeper will be responsible for;

      • Bridge, Navigation and watch keeping officer’s duties as directed by the Master;

      • Deck duties and functions ;

      • Permitted duties and function as specified in Marine Orders 71;

      • Inspection and maintaining Lifesaving and Fire Fighting Equipment;

      • Monitoring, maintenance and inspection of Deck machinery and equipment;

      • Undertaking cargo watch and ballasting duties;

      • Administering the medical stores inventory;

      • Any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned;

      About you

      • Educational requirement: as per AMSA Marine Order 71 – Watchkeeper Deck (required)

        • At least 18 months of documented qualifying sea service on vessels ≥500 gross tonnage.

        • Of this, at least 12 months must be on voyages of at least 24 hours duration.

        • Within these 12 months, at least 6 months must be served as an understudy to the officer in charge of a navigational watch or in an equivalent watchkeeping role

      • Certificate of Safety Training (STCW) (desirable)

      • Work Safely at Heights Certification (desirable)

      • Enter and Work in Confined Space Certification (desirable)

      • Hold, or be eligible to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) (required)

      • Australian Citizen or unlimited Australian Working Rights

      • Living in Australia

      • Be comfortable wearing a respirator
