Job Description

- Greet and assist customers with their “order on demand” sandwich selections.
- Make pre-made sandwiches and stock the Grab and Go cooler.
- Slice, package, price and stock meats for the Grab and Go cooler.
- Prepare and serve fresh smoothies as ordered by customers.
- Offer tastes, samples and suggestions to aid customers with product selections.
- Maintain announcement boards in the department.
- Report customer suggestions, comments and complaints to the Prepared Foods Manager.
- Ensure Deli display cases are fully stocked to give customers a feeling of abundance.
- Ensure freshness of deli items by rotating old and new inventory and by keeping product batches separate by date.
- Ensure proper label of all product descriptions, prices and ingredients (as assigned).
- Assist with catering order (as assigned).
- Pull “soon to expire”, slow moving or low-quality items from selling shelves; record and properly dispose of said merchandise, according to The Dill Pickle Co-op policy and procedures.
- Ensure Deli counter, deli cases and food prep areas are sanitary and organized according to department standards to ensure health department regulations.
- Prep food materials in advance for sandwich and smoothie production as instructed by established prep lists.
- Follow daily/weekly/monthly department cleaning lists as instructed by Deli Lead.
- Remove trash promptly, sweep and mop daily as part of the opening and closing procedures.
- Follow manufacturer's safety, storage and labeling procedures when handling or storing products.
- Inform Prepared Foods Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
- Participate in periodic inventory counts.
- Complete established opening and closing procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience preferred but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
- Ability to reason and apply logic for resolve of common workplace issues.
- Able to pass a criminal local/state/federal background screening.
- Eligible to work within the USA.
- Applicants must be available to work holidays, evenings and weekends.
- Obtain “Serv Safe” (or similar) safe food handling certificate and be competent in training all other cafe service staff in all appropriate procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and conversational, are required, in addition to being a good listener and asking questions to increase knowledge.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach and lift repeatedly for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in adverse kitchen temperatures.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to work with cleaning supplies and chemicals with appropriate protective gear.
- Ability to multi-task and remain flexible to changing needs of business.
- Occasional Exposure to:
- Wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
- Fumes or airborne particles.
- Outdoor weather conditions.
- Extreme cold (non-weather).
- The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Deli Clerk position is responsible for preparing high quality foods for the purpose of promptly serving customers at the Deli Counter and stocking the grab and go cooler.
