      About the Position: This position is located at the Clinical Dentistry Department at 15th Medical Group (Hickam), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.

      This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

      Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is only available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

      Duties


      • Perform specialized dental hygiene procedures on patients with or without topical/local anesthetics.
      • Complete all preparation for dental hygiene treatment and preliminary dental examination.
      • Maintain patient's record of treatment.
      • Interpret routine radiographs.
      • Position x-ray equipment and patient to ensure coverage of designated area(s).
      • Provide individual and group oral health care instructions in performing specialized prophylactic and preventive dental hygiene procedures.
      • Expose and digitally upload radiographs on patients such as: bite wings, periapical, and panoramic.
      • Provide dental hygiene training to other dental service personnel.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • Must obtain and maintain an X-ray certification.
      • This position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
      • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
      • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
      • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
      • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
      • Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
      • Must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a Criminal History Background Check (CHBC). This position requires at least one contact (i.e. patient encounter) per week or at least four (4) contacts per month with children under the age of 18.

      In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       Licensure: Applicants for all grade levels and specializations must be currently licensed to practice as dental hygienists in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

      NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:

      (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

      In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

      Specialized Experience: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: performing advanced prophylactic dental procedures on patients; completing oral examinations on patients; and performing or interpreting routing x-rays to identify tooth structures, calculus or abnormalities, such as cavities and deep periodontal pockets.
