- Provide a safe environment and reduce the security risks to JUF/Jewish Federation and its agencies, facilities, and events to support Jewish Community needs.
- Conduct on site assessments and make regular scheduled visits to facilities to mitigate vulnerabilities, monitor security protocols and use of equipment, and ensure that approved practices are being adhered to.
- Conceptualize, implement, and operate programs to provide security for buildings, other physical assets, and personnel (staff, lay leadership, community members, events, etc.)
- Investigate physical security related incidents and report findings and recommendations for corrective action to the Security Director.
- Procure vendors that can supply technical assistance and security products to be integrated into the security system.
- Serve as resource to and advise on the development of policies and procedures, training programs and written plans to address security and safety concerns and deal with major emergencies.
- Provide or procure security-related training and education to a wide range of groups within the community (e.g., staff, Jewish schools, community centers, synagogues, events, missions, and groups traveling abroad). Seek training opportunities, best practices, and deliver training.
- Attend appropriate security and training seminars.
- Facilitate effective communication of security concerns and developments among agencies/congregations and between the agencies/congregations and law enforcement.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with appropriate contacts and partners in law enforcement (e.g., FBI, Chicago Police Department, Israel Consulate, SCN, etc.) to ensure smooth flow of intelligence information including evaluation and taking action.
- Meet with inter-agency personnel to oversee and implement security and emergency preparedness plans and advise on the most strategic use of approved funds.
- Initiate and respond to ongoing contacts with staff, volunteers, and members of the Jewish, civic, and law enforcement communities.
- Provide necessary administrative and fiscal support for all physical security programs and advise on additional resources that may be required.
- Oversee day to day operations.
- Help coordinate service requests (e.g., training, assessment, etc.)
- Assist in drafting proposals for internal review and approval.
- Monitor trends in security technology.
- Assist in creating databases.
- Represent/act for the Security Director in their absence.
- Oversee security personnel.
- Support JUF Campaign and mandatory campaign-related activities on an ongoing basis and promote JUF’s mission at all times through superior customer service and efficient use and care of resources.
- 7-10 years of experience with at least 3 years in a management-level position
- Bachelor’s degree required, master's degree preferred
- Must have experience:
- in corporate, military, local law enforcement or government security systems
- running and managing security systems, software, and communication databases
- writing security preparedness policies
- Availability 24X7
- Strong writing, presentation, communication, analytical, problem resolution, and negotiation skills
- Comfortable with frequent interruptions, distractions, and deadlines
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with members of the agencies and general community
- Willing and able to pass a security Level 1 background check

What you’ll be responsible for
You will be responsible for providing JUF, its constituents, and community with comprehensive security services. You will develop affordable and appropriate response systems, communicate information, and train staff to expand the level of preparedness. You will serve as liaison with public safety entities to ensure deterrence, detection, and response to community security needs. Under supervision of the Security Director, you will shape direction and advance implementation of JUF’s new security program.
