- Supervise and work with the Reuters.com team to make sure that we promptly display breaking news and choose our strongest enterprise stories to promote on our homepage
- Edit and proofread social-media copy for our videos and stories that run on X, Facebook, Instagram and other social sites
- Send and edit mobile alerts for breaking news and enterprise stories
- Work with our global editors and reporters to maximize the impact of our stories, including rewriting headlines and leads and spotting errors or reporting holes in copy
- Curate and update the best and most relevant photos and videos for our stories, including live video where appropriate
- Keep our most important topic pages updated
- Work with graphics and enterprise editors to present sophisticated multimedia content on our stories
- Work with the Frontpage Editor and the Editor-in-Charge for digital to plan the homepage for the week ahead
- Ensure that we have all the elements ready for digital display for set-piece coverage
- Help sharpen the daily and weekly rhythm and mix on our digital platforms, including columns, standing features, podcasts, newsletters, etc.
- Strong news judgment
- A copy editor’s eye for detail, style and grammar
- An ability to write creative and engaging headlines and other homepage copy
- Experience running a news homepage or experience in a news-editing role
- An ability to collaborate with all parts of the newsroom around the world, from senior editors to deskers to pictures, video and graphics editors
- A real curiosity about social media
- A calm head when handling multiple breaking stories
- An open mind, thick skin and a sense of humor
- An understanding of how to use news analytics as a tool in deciding story prominence and selection
- A firm grounding in SEO principles to make sure that audiences everywhere see our news in search results
- Finally, while the successful candidate will not need any kind of coding experience, a level of technological savvy would be helpful

Reuters seeks an experienced digital editor in Toronto to help plan the week ahead and to curate Reuters.com on the weekends. This role has two distinct parts to it: weekly planning and weekend curation. The ideal candidate will have great news judgment, proven skills as a digital storyteller, as well as expertise in planning and building an engaging mix of news and stories, both hour-by-hour and across a week.
In person or remote: Hybrid, with an expectation the successful candidate will work in the Toronto office three days a week.
