      Position Description

      Position Overview: Are you a visionary Design Engineer? Join Applied Medical and be at the forefront of revolutionizing medical device manufacturing. As a Design Engineer, you'll be 100% onsite designing and developing medical device components, assemblies, and fixtures within the framework of a cross functional team. You will work within the Enabling Instrumentation Development team and be responsible for performing root cause analysis on component and product failures and implement corrective actions to improve products and processes. You will learn about clinical needs and relevant surgical procedures to interpret users’ needs to create relevant design requirements and specifications.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Product Design: Develop and create detailed design drawings and specifications based on project requirements and be able to utilize CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to create 2D and 3D models of products or systems.
      • Creativity: You will need to have the ability to be creative. An inventive mindset is essential for you to design new products and services or improve upon those that have already been created. As a Design Engineer you will need to constantly innovate to continue to drive success.
      • Design Documentation Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and design reviews.
      • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of designs into the overall product development process.
      • Problem Solving: You will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues that arise. This will include taking action to solve the problem by generating ideas for the solution, finding out the reasons behind the problem, and implementing the solution.

      Performance Objectives:

      Within your first 30 days:

      • Complete all Applied Learning foundational courses with a passing grade of 95% or above, demonstrating rapid integration into company processes.
      • Discuss your goals and expectations with your team leader(s) and read and review all relevant team resources and materials
      • Participate in team meetings and operations, contributing valuable insights and ideas to team discussions.

      Within 60 days:

      • Exhibit a strong technical understanding of the product line(s) and/or projects
      • Take ownership of low to moderately guided projects, ensuring 100% progress to the next phase, demonstrating initiative.

      Within 90 days to 1 year:

      • Develop interpersonal connections and relationships with others to effectively accomplish project objectives and deliverables
      • Lead moderate to complex projects with minimal guidance or direction, displaying autonomy and advanced project management skills

      Position Requirements

      This position requires the following skills and attributes:

      • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent)
      • 1-3 years’ experience in product development with previous personal design experience
      • Familiarity with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and software development process
      • Experience in planning activities in an engineering environment
      • Demonstrated ability to understand complex product development projects and identify important elements.
      • Demonstrated experience in contingency planning is highly valued
      • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
      • Ability to work across functional groups including Clinical Development Engineering, Operations and Process Development.
