Job Description

- Greet patrons at the front lobby entrance.
- Identify and confirm patrons’ business to the detention center.
- Answer/direct phone inquiries pertaining to staff and inmates.
- Manage visitation and provide accurate recordkeeping of approved/denied visitation.
- Access, query, and update various automated information systems related to daily operations.
- Accept, inspect, and keep track of all UPS/FedEx deliveries to the front lobby.
- Coordinate the pick-up/delivery of incoming/outgoing staff and inmate mail.
- Maintain a log and related records for all mail transactions.
- Ensure that mail is processed according to U.S. Postal Service regulations as well as agency policies.
- Handle, inspect, post, and properly distribute incoming correspondence.
- Operate mail meter and other electronic devices to keep illegal contraband from entering/exiting the facility through any mail items.
- Identify and document any unusual occurrences.
- Follow security and emergency policies as well as procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

- Interpersonal Skills – the ability to handle conflict, be attentive and emphatic while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Basic knowledge of mail policies and best practices.
- Ability to search mail through basic physical techniques.
- Ability to function independently with little to no supervision.
- Repetitive motions such as: reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, touching, grasping, searching, talking, listening, seeing, and remaining vigilant.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
- Work is routinely performed in an environment that involves some degree of risk to personal safety that may be stressful to certain individuals.
- Requires direct contact with inmates in a correctional setting.
- Telephone, Computer, Radio, Fax Machine, Mail Meter, Renovo Video System, Mail Screener and other electronic devices or equipment.
- Typical hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 40 hours per week.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Driver’s license (with no more than 5 demerit points)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical screening, a thorough background investigation, and a polygraph
- Certified in First Aid and CPR.
