      As an apprentice in the Capabilities team in Flight Physics you will be working on real engineering projects that impact the design of the aircraft, supporting the three other UK departments (Aerodynamics, Loads & Aeroelastics and Mass Properties) as well as working with colleagues throughout Europe, India, and Canada. This results in a high variety of work and day to day challenges.

      Within our team some of the topics we’re working on include:

      • Machine Learning, AI and data analytics

      • Cloud

      • Software support across a wide range of language

      • Support of systems ranging from 30+ years old to brand new

      Through our Digital and Technology Solutions Degree you will have a unique opportunity to develop applications directly applicable to engineering solutions within Flight Physics. We are responsible for overall aircraft design activities that are used for the detailed design across all the stages of aircraft development, from pre-design work to in-service support. Our activities are focused on supporting existing and future aircraft programmes, new research and technology as well as capability/tool development; as a result, the work is varied and interesting.

      You are given real freedom in your placements. Often apprentices do placements with different teams in their target department but also in a variety of other engineering departments, allowing you to develop your technical knowledge and soft skills so that you have a broad basis for your future career. During these placements, you will continue to develop your skills and technical knowledge through a combination of academic study, on the job experience and training.

      What you will be doing:

      Our Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship offers a full degree with no fees, plus vocational training with a regular salary. Airbus is leading the way with this unique 4 year programme through which you will achieve a BSc Hons degree (level 6 qualification) in Digital and Technology Solutions.

      Apprentices make a significant contribution to Flight Physics. During the scheme, you get to experience the different Flight Physics departments, as well as placements in other areas (based on your interests and development), so that you have a broad basis for your future career in the Flight Physics Capability team.

      You will be given real responsibility in your placements, doing challenging work within each team and experiencing a wide range of technical topics. The placements will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully.

      Key activities of the industry based work of this apprenticeship include:

      • Contribute to new and innovative software which is used in the overall aircraft design and optimization process;

      • Working on software solutions to support in-service aircraft;

      • Participate in all phases of the application development life cycle including research and design, development, testing, implementation and support;

      • Interface with Flight Physics engineers and IT specialists to provide solutions to business needs.

      Requirements:


      In order to be eligible for this exciting apprenticeship opportunity you must have a minimum:

      • 3 A-Levels as grade B or above (or equivalent), preferably in Maths, Physics and IT, or

      • BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in a Computing or IT related subject at minimum grade DMM, or

      • Access to HE - Minimum 30 Level 3 credits, with 15 in Maths and 15 in a Science or Technology subject, or

      • Baccalaureate IB - Minimum H5 grade in Comp Science, and a minimum H3 grade in either Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics.

      And

      • Minimum Grade 4/C English, and Grade 5/B Maths

      • Or equivalent qualifications (subject to validation).

      Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

      • Some previous experience of coding;

      • Enjoys solving mathematical or science problems through coding;

      • Previous knowledge of Linux/cloud and experience of computer languages such as C++, JavaScript, Python would be beneficial;

      • The ability to work well in a team;

      • Has a passion for learning and is not afraid to fail;

      • Proactive, love to learn and be able to focus on your own self development;

      • Ability to manage problems, communicating effectively to resolve them in a fast-paced environment.

      To be a successful candidate you need to:

      Important Information:

      GRADES: If you are on predicted grades, your offer will be conditional to achieving the required grades before the apprenticeship start date.

      SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).
