      Job Summary

      The Director Materials Management is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling the activities of the Materials Management department. This includes the acquisition, preparation, and distribution of materials throughout the hospital system.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Direct the activities and oversee the development of policies and procedures for Materials Management. Recruits, selects, trains, assigns, and evaluates staff.
      • Identify and implement long and short-term goals and objectives that are consistent with hospital strategies.
      • Develop and administer departmental budgets and reviews monthly reports to ensure compliance and performance within budgetary constraints.
      • Build relationships both internally and externally for the effective exchange of information, activity coordination, process improvement and problem resolution.
      • Represent Materials Management on various hospital committees as needed or assigned.
      • Efficiently manage the Materials department, ensuring PAR levels of supplies are maintained, the process of bidding and analysis of bids provides the most competitive pricing for supplies and equipment, and vendors providing supplies are responsive to requests and customer needs.
      • Oversee the hospitals participation in group purchasing programs.
      • Develop written specifications in response to capital equipment requests, prepare bid invitations, and officiate at bid openings. Review and evaluate competitive bids for compliance with written specifications.
      • Maintain accurate documentation in all aspects of department operations and provide recurring or ad hoc reports.
      • Conduct annual physical inventory and reconcile variances with automated inventory system.
      • Continually review cost effective measures of equipment, supplies and services.
      • Advise, negotiate and serve as a general resource to department management in reference to new equipment, supplies and services.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Education Requirements

      • Minimum: Bachelors degree

      Experience Requirements

      • Minimum: Five (5) years management experience with three (3) years Director level experience in purchasing, inventory control, distribution of supplies and management in a healthcare or related field.
