GENERAL SUMMARY: Come be a part of an exciting, dynamic team! This role is responsible for underwriting Consumer Loan applications and working directly with members and internal partners. SPECIALIZED ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Responsible for inbound calls from applicants to originate and underwrite new loan applications for all consumer loan products; prepare for loan processing.
- Responsible for contacting applicant, communicating decision and requirements, and collecting necessary documentation; prepare for loan processing.
- Responsible for underwriting loan application originations including responsibilities listed above for loan processing.
- Responsible for managing Loan Pipeline daily and meeting member experience and production objectives for this role.
- Report loan pipeline progress to Management within established timeframes.
- Review and understand approvals and/or conditions; verify approval requirements are met.
- Provide clear and accurate loan process information to members, clearly setting realistic expectations and time frames.
- Input accurate loan information into Loan Operation System and Core system to ensure proper loan onboarding.
- Analyze and evaluate consumer loan applications, credit bureaus, account information, and all other pertinent data and documentation to make sound decisions.
- Analyze applicant financial statements, credit, property evaluation, and communicate with applicants or creditors to resolve loan application questions.
- Conducts loan interviews with members, explaining and cross selling the Credit Union's services, products, and loan payment options.
- Proactively responds to members' loan inquiries and requests using product knowledge, various systems, and credit bureau reports.
- Analyze applicant documents for accuracy and truthfulness; refer all possible fraudulent applications to appropriate internal partner(s).
- Council members in understanding their financial conditions prior to loan decision and to provide advice on the resolution of credit history issues.
- Communicate adverse action decision to members and provide financial education resources.
- Underwrite loans within standard underwriting guidelines, via Loan Origination System; Refers loan applications exceeding established lending authority to Lending Specialists III or Consumer Lending Management.
- Provides support to other Consumer Lending team members, Call Center and Branch partners requests for assistance with loan related questions and transactions.
- Maintain and demonstrate proficient knowledge of all internal policies, procedures, regulations, compliance, and loan products as primary resource for team.
- Recommends solutions for the more intricate loan requests within policy or procedural guidelines in the absence of the Consumer Lending Specialists III and Consumer Lending Management.
- Review and calculate applicable ratios to determine credit utilization, disposable income, and/or asset collateral, when applicable.
- Assists in training and coaching new employees in the Department
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION, JOB EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATION: - Three to five years related consumer lending underwriting experience required.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: - Proficient in writing effectively in English using correct spelling and grammar.
- Proficient in speaking clearly, tactfully, and effectively in English.
- Proficient math skills including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages using a 10-key.
- Proficient in the use of basic applications in a Windows-based environment, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Moderate keyboard skills at 40 wpm.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficient time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting consumer loan documents such as, but not limited to, credit bureau reports, Truth in Lending disclosures, promissory notes, rate tables, policy, and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written form, including but not limited to Policy and Procedure Manuals, Regulation Z, Section 91 - The Fair Credit Reporting Act, and UCC.
