      Director - Mining Engineer, Corporate Banking, Global Mining & Metals - Toronto, ON


      Our Corporate Banking team has an immediate opening for a mining industry professional located in our headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

      As a key member of the Global Mining & Metals team, the individual will utilize their industry experience to conduct critical technical reviews of mining properties in support of Scotiabank’s lending to mining clients. Findings from these technical reviews are to be presented in concise, easy to understand written reports to be provided internally to the Global Mining & Metals team and to the Global Risk Management department. Emphasis will also be placed upon the ability to effectively represent Scotiabank in dealings with clients during mine site visits.

      Is this role right for you?

      • Perform technical due diligence of mining companies and specific mining properties, including assessment of operations, development plans, capital and operating costs, key risks, and upside potential
      • Provide key inputs for financial modeling
      • Provide written reports summarizing due diligence findings
      • Discuss technical views with Scotiabank’s senior credit committee on request
      • Represent Scotiabank on mine site visits, and as part of a team during key lending pitches

      Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
      We'd love to work with you if you have:

      • A minimum of 15 years of precious and base metals industry experience, including project evaluation, operations and engineering
      • Strong technical, analytical and communication skills, including the ability to distill technical views into findings that can be easily understood by bankers and risk management professionals who do not have a technical background
      • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Geology or related discipline
      • Experience in Corporate Development is considered an asset
      • Spanish language skills are considered an asset

      Work Arrangement:

      • This role will require frequent travel, within Canada and International.
      • This position is currently a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work three days a week in the office (minimum). Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
