Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Teacher Leadership and Development Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. General Description: Boston Public Schools has made a commitment to train, support and retain promising novice teachers. The New Teacher Development (NTD) Program Director will and drive the district’s strategy for training, supporting and retaining strong novice teachers across BPS. Specifically, the NTD Program Director will manage and coordinate a cadre of full-time and part-time New Teacher Developers (NTDs), who support new teachers across the district. The NTD Program Director will insure that New Teacher Developers have the training they need to mentor, support and coach new teachers as necessary. The New Teacher Development Program Director’s Responsibilities: Professional Development Manage the vision for professional learning experiences for full-time NTDs, part-time NTDs and new teachers Lead and inform the continuous improvement of the instructional support strategy for all new teachers across the district. Plan, manage and coordinate summer orientation and onboarding for new teachers in collaboration with central office departments and partners (New Teacher Institute, August 2021 ) Lead and organize professional development days and field coaching/school visits for NTDs Lead and organize professional development opportunities for 2nd/3rd year teachers Create and execute Veteran Teachers-Advancing Practice Seminars Develop and lead early career teachers-Professional License Mentoring Program Assist school based-NTDs in planning for, reflecting on and analyzing their practice in relation to information instruction and enhancing student achievement Promote the development of a professional learning community among school based NTDs Coordinate with BPS Extended Learning Time Team, the Office of English Language Learners and the Office of Special Education to ensure high quality summer school placements for Fellows Communication and Logistics Support full-time and part-time NTDs to implement the following: All NTDs Communicate with school leaders about induction requirements, best practices, quarterly updates, sharing data and placements and support Communicate regularly with school administrators to promote coordinate and help facilitate school-based professional learning communities amongst novice teachers in that school Manage and track NTD and new teacher assignments Communicate matches with NTDs, new teachers and school leaders Regularly confer with NTDs and beginning teachers Communicate program data with stakeholders (school leaders, Principal Leaders, mentors, teachers, OHC, etc) disaggregated by Teaching and Learning Teams (TLTs) as well as the aggregate Issue induction certificates for licensure: support NTDs and new teachers with comprehension of license renewal and the role of mentoring in this work Calculate and submit budget projections and stipend payouts for the NTD Program Data Support full-time NTDs to implement the following: Maintain and submit documentation of work with school-based NTDs and new teachers. Track mentoring hours Design and analyze new teacher surveys and use that data to inform program priorities Use data from new teachers supported by NTDs to inform instructional strategy and direction Create, send and analyze teacher induction survey results Analyze data per region for mentoring practices, hours, needs Maintain all program related data bases Collaboration Support full-time NTDs to implement the following: Collaborate with partner organizations who support induction (BTR, TNY, TFA, ACTT, BTU) Support schools who are unable to identify a NTD Support evaluation cycle/resources for new teachers Interdepartmental work across Central Office departments-aligning resources and needs to support the District Teacher Development continuum. Qualifications - Required: Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree Preferred K-12 teaching experience (at least 5 years in an urban setting) Demonstrated commitment to diversity, ensuring all students access to the highest quality instruction, and closing the achievement gap Mastery of pedagogical and subject matter skills Strong interpersonal skills Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and learning Experience working with and leading training for adult learners Experience leading professional development or creating other learning opportunities for new teachers and mentors Experience managing staff Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Ability to multitask across multiple projects Experience using Excel to generate reports and analyze data Excellent oral and communication skills This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Terms Managerial, D62.
