Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.
Relevant experience includes government affairs or other relevant experience.
Knowledge of the federal legislative process.
Demonstrated public relations, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Experience working in higher education or similar complex organization.

Summary of Duties:
The Director of Federal Relations for WSU DC serves on behalf of the University President and Vice President of External Affairs and Government Relations and is responsible for developing an annual federal legislative agenda and implementing strategies to move that agenda forward. They oversee institutional activities aimed at growing federal engagement and support. This position advises University Leadership and the Vice President of External Affairs and Government Relations on University matters, participates in institutional strategy development, and assists with overall planning, management, and execution of strategic initiatives for the Vice President. They are responsible for providing leadership, direction, planning, and administration for engagement and advocacy directed toward federal policy and funding objectives. This includes interacting with and organizing in-state, regional, and national stakeholders to support strategic efforts in Washington DC, as well as engagement in DC with congress, administration, and stakeholders.
This position is remote/located in Washington D.C.

Monthly Salary: $10,085.96 - $12,613.50 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. For additional information, please review WSU’s Administrative Professional Compensation.
