      Overview

      Provides leadership and administrative direction for the development, implementation, evaluation and operational management of the MHMH inpatient pharmacy services that are consistent with the organizations mission, vision, strategic objectives and goals.

      Responsibilities

    • Assesses the healthcare environment identifying opportunities for developing or improving medication use systems, pharmaceutical care services or other related issues. Develops proposals, justifications, and secures administrative support and funding.
    • Plans, conceptualizes, develops, organizes, implements, systematically evaluates, and revises medication use systems and pharmaceutical care services & programs.
    • Develops, implements, revises, and effectively communicates policies and procedures.
    • Identifies, develops, implements, and revises physical facility, equipment, information systems and/or other non-personnel needs.
    • Ensures the availability of pharmaceuticals, the continued operation of medication use systems and provision of pharmaceutical care services during emergency & disaster occurrences through participation in the institution's and the community's emergency and disaster planning efforts.
    • Responsible for the performance of all pharmacy personnel job functions and activities.
    • Ensures effective and timely employee recruitment, orientation, training, recognition performance appraisal and planning, and retention programs and processes as well as develops a highly effective multi-disciplinary departmental leadership team.
    • Identifies and evaluates workload and quality indicators, to revise staffing levels and skill mix to ensure that work schedules, assignments, and procedures optimize the effective use of personnel resources.
    • In partnership with the system pharmacy contracting and distribution services, oversees the departments pharmaceutical contracting, procurement, receiving, security, inventory control, and distribution policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Develops the annual budget. Monitors and manages departmental revenues and expenses. Performs financial audits and other analysis to ensure accurate, appropriate, and timely recording and classification of departmental modeled revenue, actual revenue capture and expenses.
    • Participates in and provides oversight and guidance for the educational, research, presentation and publication activities of the department.
    • Serves as the primary pharmacy representative on selected organizational committees as appropriate, along with other Administration and Division leadership team members.
    • Facilitates the ongoing communication and information sharing of issues and initiatives.
    • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
    • Qualifications

      • BS or Pharm.D. with an advanced pharmacy degree or business degree with 10 years of progressively more responsible pharmacy practice management and/or departmental administration experience in a large tertiary care medical center, preferably as a part of an integrated healthcare system required.
      • Experience in the clinical practice and/or practice management within several continuum of care sites.
      • Strong leadership, communication and financial skills.
      • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary, multi-component environment.
      • Active participation and experience in professional organizations, educational endeavors and/or research initiatives is highly desirable.

      Required Licensure/Certifications

      • Pharmaceutical licensure in the state of New Hampshire.
