Job Description

- Direct all aspects of the REAL Scholars Program (RSP) including educational, developmental, financial and strategic operations. This includes but it not limited to student recruitment and retention, research preparation and expanded opportunities, payment and funding, campus-wide collaboration, external engagement, staffing and programming
- Continuously assess program efficacy and work with campus partners to develop next-level foci and opportunities to maximize student potential and achieve the desired outcomes of the REAL Scholars Program at Purdue
- Develop and implement program curriculum and content, including managing and teaching the 1-credit hour general studies professional development course
- Collect and steward institution, program, and student-level data to analyze and report on to the Director of Undergraduate Scholars
- Work with ODIB leadership and Purdue for Life Foundation to seek external funding
- Other duties as assigned
- Master's degree, preferably in a STEM discipline
- Six or more years of relevant experience
- Knowledge in practices that facilitate student success, particularly for underrepresented students in predominantly white environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook/Electronic Email, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Excellent student service skills and professionalism while working with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to influence, collaborate, and build working relationships among a diverse workforce
- Strong organizational and time management skills with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to identify problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
- Capacity for taking initiative, assuming responsibility, and handling confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience and interest in undergraduate research
- Skills or experience in database management, website maintenance and event planning
- PhD in STEM discipline
- Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position

Job Summary
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODIB) at Purdue University - West Lafayette seeks applicants for the position of Director of Research Excellence, Access & Learning (REAL) Program. The REAL Scholars Program, formerly known as the LSAMP Scholars Program, employs undergraduate research as a vehicle to propel more Boilermakers into excellent graduate and professional school programs. As a signature Undergraduate Scholars Programs in the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, the REAL Scholars Program connects underrepresented and underserved undergraduate participants to cutting-edge research projects, professional development workshops, opportunities to attend and present their research at conferences, preparatory programs for graduate school, and mentoring.
The director of the REAL Scholars Program will report to the director of Undergraduate Scholars. The director of the REAL Scholars Program will determine and operationalize the day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results and will report on the achievement of the overall objectives of the program. Specifically, the director will be responsible for ensuring that both the programmatic and research outcomes are achieved. The director will collaborate with university and college leadership, faculty, staff, and students from across the institution.

In additional to the REAL Scholars Program, ODIB includes the Butler Center for Faculty Excellence, the Posse Scholars Program and the Emerging Leaders Scholars Program, and is also home to five nationally recognized cultural centers: the Black Cultural Center; the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Center; and the Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center.
