      Job summary

      General Practice Dispenser required for busy multi site progressive general practice. Will work across 2 sites in rural Gravesham - at Istead Rise and Shorne Village Surgeries.

      Main duties of the job

      Normal dispensary duties, taking, processing and fulfilling prescription requests including dispensing medications to 2000 patients across the sites. Repeat prescription work for non dispensing patients. Stock ordering, maintaining, rotating. Dealing with patients regarding medication and queries.

      Job Description

      Title: Dispenser

      Responsible To: Dispensing Lead Partner for dispensing issues, via Dispensary Staff

      Managing Partner for management issues

      Responsible for. Safe and efficient preparation and dispensing of prescriptions and providing a good standard of service to the patients in line with directives laid down by the partners and practice manager

      Overall job purpose: To ensure the safe and efficient dispensing of drugs and to work as an effective and efficient team member.

      To dispense routine repeats and dispense prescriptions from Doctors consultations

      To print routine repeat prescriptions

      To sort out queries over the telephone and at the hatch

      To post prescriptions after entering in the Post Book and fax some to appropriate Chemist, recording these in the fax book

      To work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures

      To order drugs from the Wholesaler bulk order monthly and some daily

      To check incoming drugs and put on shelf checking dates new drugs at the back

      To check shelves for out of date drugs and clean shelves

      To and record all dispensed items that are delivered by the wholesaler

      To count the money for prescriptions periodically and give to the Assistant Practice Manager (Finance)

      To check all end of the month scripts count, enter in book and ensure the money balances

      To cover other Dispensers holiday as per rota

      To undertake such other duties that might reasonably be required

      To learn and implement new procedures as appropriate

      Generally to work together with other staff to ensure the smooth running of the practice

      The duties listed above may change in the light of developments within the practice and are subject to review. Implementation of any changes will be by mutual consent

      Attend practice staff meetings and dispensary meetings as requested and whenever possible

      To participate in continuing professional development (CPD) and annual appraisal

      To carry out DRUMs (Dispensing review of Use of Medicines) with patients and other items forming part of the Dispensing Quality Services Scheme (DSQS)
