What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct data quality reviews of inpatient medical records to verify ICD-10/PCS codes and DRG/APR DRG accuracy
- Maintain expertise in ICD-10/PCS coding conventions and Official Coding Guidelines
- Validate patient data by reconciling claims with medical records
- Provide written rationale for coding changes affecting DRG assignments
- Identify and audit high-risk cases for potential errors
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 5 years of hospital inpatient coding for PPS reimbursement or 2+ years in DRG validation
- Must possess at least one coding credential: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of DRG structure and regulatory standards
- Must meet acceptable active time on system expectations during set business hours
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Additional coding certifications beyond the minimum required
- Experience in coding audits or quality assurance processes
- Familiarity with DRG Grouper/Pricer software and ICD-10-CM encoder software
- Previous experience in a collaborative healthcare setting
- Proven track record of effective time and priority management
