      Job summary

      We are looking to appoint a consultant colleague to join our ENT team in Wrexham on a substantive basis. The post is for ten professional activities (PAs) per week of which it is anticipated seven will be for direct clinical care (including participation in the 1:7 on call covering both Wrexham Maelor and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd sites) and three for supporting professional activity (SPA).As well as routine work the departments current surgical team offer specialist areas of work including facial skin cancer, otology, bone anchored hearing aiding, paediatrics, thyroid surgery, voice disorders, head and neck cancer surgery, obstructive sleep apnoea services and lacrimal surgery. The team also consists of 4 consultants and 4 middle grade surgeons, 2 of whom are on specialist training schemes. You would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorate as determined by the consultant on your team and provide a high quality ENT service to the local population including an emergency on-call commitment.

      Main duties of the job

      Your Consultant supervisor would be the Lead Clinician of the ENT Unit.

      The current expected on call Rota is 1 in 7. You would be Consultant on call. There is cross cover with Ysbyty Glan Clewed. At time of writing middle grade surgeons are not resident on shift when on call. This is liable to regular review.

      You will be required to cover for your colleagues' periods of leave.

      To assist with nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.

      To contribute, to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives.

      You will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

      Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service you will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the profession where they involve clinical matters.

      You will be expected to pursue local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.
