    • Provide liaison and interpreting support during one-to-one visits with families
    • Provide liaison and interpreting support during ECFE or other Early Childhood classes
    • Provide language and information support to staff and families when programming questions or issues arise
    • Provide cultural information and insight to staff as well as professional development
    • Assist in mediating cultural or language-related misunderstandings and conflicts.
    • Build relationships with Somali families in Early Childhood community, facilitating involvement in school advisory opportunities and relevant programs
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, parents, and students
    • Maintain set office hours for family phone calls
    • Provide support to families and staff during enrollment and registration
    • Candidate will be a proficient interpreter, and fluent in the Somali language
    • Two or more years experience working in a similar role, preferably in a school setting, working with families across cultures.
    • Experience with diverse populations; racially, culturally, socio-economically and LGBTQ.
    • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Driver’s license.
    • Candidate will have an understanding of Early Childhood education and child development
    • Candidate will have knowledge of or be willing to learn about the Early Childhood Special Education program and systems
    • Candidate will have an understanding of the public school system and advocacy for students and families
    • Ability to manage tasks efficiently and maintain structured processes.
    • Proficient oral and written communication in English and Somali language.
    • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and address program related challenges
    • Maintain confidentiality, neutrality and respectful communication
    • Familiarity with technology tools commonly used in educational settings.
    • Work is performed in school settings at multiple locations throughout the District, and may include other locations in the community, including parks, outdoors, and other community buildings.
    • Travel required to locations throughout the District.
    • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
    • SUMMARY:
      The Early Childhood Somali Liaison plays a vital role in building and supporting home-school relationships. This position supports Somali families involved in Early Childhood, building trusting partnerships with families, caregivers, and students. This position will increase family engagement with and understanding of our Hopkins school programs and services.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education and Experience:
      • Candidate will be a proficient interpreter, and fluent in the Somali language
      • Two or more years experience working in a similar role, preferably in a school setting, working with families across cultures.

      Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
      Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
