- Help to guide our journalists as they assess and mitigate risks and while on assignment in the field and will be part of a wider safety team that manages risk 24/7 as it follows the Sun
- Be ready to join teams on assignment if necessary, and will be experienced in emergency first aid.
- Help to identify, manage and develop a diverse bench of media safety advisors within the region
- Help to oversee and contribute to our internally run hostile environment training courses in the Americas
- Experience managing field safety for journalists in dynamic, challenging environments
- Hostile environment experience, such as working in areas of conflict, covering violent civil unrest, natural disasters and online abuse as well as experience dealing with harassment and identity related safety issues
- Emergency first aid experience and an appetite to gain relevant certifications for the role
- Literate in digital safety and able to apply safety mitigations in a practical way

We’re looking for an experienced self-starter to join our global editorial safety team as the Editorial Safety Lead for the Americas region.
The successful candidate will have strong local knowledge in the region. They will proactively overwatch high and very high-risk assignments in a busy region spanning the United States to Haiti, Venezuela to the Southern Cone.
The position will be based in New York or Washington, DC. Cities in Latin America where Reuters has a major hub will be considered Spanish and Portuguese language skills are a strong plus.
