      Department Overview:

      Arts + Literature Laboratory (ALL) is a community-driven contemporary arts center supporting the visual, literary, and performing arts through an active calendar of exhibitions, readings, concerts, and educational programs. We bring together resources, people, and space to empower artists and writers to take risks that transcend formal and conceptual boundaries. Our programs foster critical and imaginative dialogue towards equitable social transformation—actively challenging audiences while prioritizing accessibility and community responsiveness.

      ALL’s 10,500 square foot space in Madison’s downtown Capitol East District houses galleries and performance space, a writing center and small press library, artist studios, and a dedicated education studio.

      Qualifications:

      As this is the first time that ALL will hire this position, flexibility and growth will be a part of the job. We may assign you new or different tasks throughout the semester. We are looking for an employee who wants to work in Arts Administration, Creative Writing, Art, Music, Community and Organizational Development, or Curatorial Practices.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      Ability to communicate directly and clearly with others; strong interpersonal skills; quick problem-solving abilities; punctuality. Interests in Visual Art, Writing, Community and Organizational Practices, or Curatorial Practices are bonuses.

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      Arts + Literature Lab (ALL) is seeking an intern to be present and assist with the start of evening visual art and writing workshops in ALL’s beautiful 3rd Floor education studio and/or 2nd Floor mezzanine space. As an Education Studio Assistant, you will be responsible for setting up classroom spaces for between 5-16 adult participants prior to class start times. You will meet with Teaching Artists at the start of evening classes, set up modest snacks for class participants, direct students to classroom spaces and restrooms. You should be prepared to answer general questions about ALL as an organization, as well as questions about ALL’s other educational offerings. ALL will provide you with the necessary training and information to complete all of the above requirements.
      Potential for rehire in Spring 2025.

      Physical Demands:

      The ability to maneuver between 3 floors of the ALL building, with or without the aid of our elevators, is necessary.
