Job Description

- Supervise a team of 15-25 absentee mail seasonal staff.
- Approve time and expense reports in APEX.
- Manage time off and absenteeism.
- Maintain absentee mail team daily workflow and schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
- One of the following:
- Four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in political science, public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position.
- Experience:
- As a lead worker or supervisor.
- Approving Hennepin County employee timecards in APEX.
- Creating expense reports in Hennepin County APEX.
- Managing confidential files and information.
- Knowledge of diversity and inclusion strategies with a focus on disparities reduction.
- Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office suite.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, demands, and timelines.
About the department:
Hennepin County Elections works with partners at the federal, state, and local level to provide voting services to over one million eligible county residents in over 400 polling places throughout the county. Program areas include voter registration, absentee voting, voter education and engagement, local election clerk training, voting technology, election day operations, results reporting and certification, recounts and audits, candidate filing, campaign finance reporting, violation investigations, and elections data stewardship.

Hennepin County’s Elections department is seeking a temporary Absentee APEX Supervisor - Elections Specialist to join the absentee voting team for three months during the 2024 election season. This position will supervise seasonal staff performing essential administrative tasks to administer secure and transparent absentee voting in Hennepin County. Prior experience in elections is not required for this role. The Elections department is responsible for the administration and supervision of all federal, state, and local elections in the county and 800,000 registered voters.
Location and hours:
This position is located at the 625 Building at 625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and are subject to change based on business need.
About the position type:
This is a temporary, benefit earning mobility assignment. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to apply for this mobility assignment. Note: Limited duration employees are not eligible.This position is a job mobility assignment , with participation from August 25, 2024 through November 15, 2024. A mobility assignment is a voluntary job change to a different department that is filled by a regular or probationary employee to carry out the duties of the same or a different job class. Hennepin County mobility assignments allow employees to develop a particular expertise and prepare for promotional opportunities as well as facilitate, support, and accelerate knowledge transfer across departments. Job mobility assignments are temporary; employees typically return to their original department at the conclusion of their mobility assignment.The hiring department may opt to include all employees in lower/higher pay ranges.Supervisor approval is required.
