      Job Duties & Responsibilities

      Duties:

      • Performing the highest type of independent or cooperative work in accordance with established guidelines. This work is associated with all types of construction; application, theory of operation, maintenance and repair of all electrical and mechanical equipment, circuits, and associated facilities found in substations, electric and gas production plans, operating headquarters, peaking units, consumer owned equipment, networks, radial system equipment and other similar equipment and areas of responsibility.
      • Must satisfactorily complete all prescribed education and training courses and meet all standards and qualifications.
      • Reading, interpreting and applying prints, drawings and specifications.
      • Setting up, performing, analyzing and interpreting test results.
      • Installing, inspecting, testing, adjusting, maintaining, repairing, etc. , all types of electrical and mechanical equipment and associated facilities.
      • Apply manufacturers and Company instructions for installing, testing, adjusting, maintaining, and repairing equipment and associated facilities.
      • Diagnose and correct difficulties and faults.
      • Working on or near energized circuits or equipment.
      • Lay out and carry through job assignments.
      • Plan, coordinate, and perform work with other departments or divisions.
      • Responsible for and direct work of one subordinate.
      • Prepare written reports, drawings and sketches.
      • Perform such other comparable or less skilled work or special tests as may be assigned.
      • Instruct and train lower grade personnel.

      Job Qualifications

      • High School Diploma or GED.
      • 3 1/2 years of experience with electrical related work or electrical technical courses.
      • Hold a valid US driver's license with a satisfactory driver history.
      • Able to qualify for an Interstate Class A Commercial Driver's License at time of hire. (To learn more go to: https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/cdl10sec01.pdf but be sure to specify CDL type as Class A (Interstate).
      • Successfully complete all training and progressed to the top step of the Electric Technician classification.
      • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
      • Deal with problems involving several variables from standardized situations.
      • Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
      • Ability and willingness to work at heights.
      • Pass a screening exams that includes a 4-part written exam, mechanical screening requirements: plate test and basic wiring project, and three part physical assessment: substation grounding, working from an extension ladder and operating a mobile elevated work platform.

      Licenses or Certifications

      • Valid NYS driver's license with satisfactory driver history.
      • CDL preferred.

      Training and Courses

      • Company Driving Test.
      • CPS-2/NC-2/PMC-1 Placement Tests and Forms A and B.
      • 3 1/2 years experience wtih electrical technical courses or related work.
